Let it shine!
This fresnel lens originally was imported from France with an oil burning lantern. Oil had to be replenished every 2 days from the oil room. Today it's automated with a flashing light every 2 seconds (twice) then dark for 14 seconds (repeat). With this lense it can seen by ships some 24 miles out...fascinating!

This reminds me of our trip to the Oregon coast. We made a trip to the lighthouse - may even have been this one. If this was the Yaquina Bay light house, Marc and I visited here with my parents in May of 2004. Quite a sight, really.
